Saint Cecilia of Rome, virgin and martyr, is commemorated on the 22nd of November.
She lived between the II and the III century and she is one of the most popular martyrized virgins in Rome.
She died for Christ and she was buried in the graveyard of Saint Calisto. Her name appears in the Eucaristic Prayer.
In the same period in Rome were martyrized the Saints Valeriano and Tiburzio, who were buried in the grave yard of Pretestato.
It is believed that the relics of the martyrs are under the major altar in the Church of Saint Cecilia in Trastevere.
Saint Cecilia is the patrono of the musicians. In the art she is illustrated with a musical instrument.
